This review is long overdue. We can’t thank Ralpha and Carlos enough for transforming our once bare, plain backyard into a beautiful oasis. Carlos’s craftsmanship is truly exceptional—the results speak for themselves. Every detail was approached with care and precision, and it shows in the final outcome. Friends and family continue to compliment our backyard, and we couldn’t be happier. We’re so grateful to HQ Remodeling for bringing our vision to life.![]()

Super thankful for finding HQ remodeling but especially Rapha and Carlos. They helped us from design stage to incredible craftsmanship and cleaned everything up. Professional at every step and over delivered. The pavers, charcoal boarder, drainage, drip systems and so so many small touches in the brick work is amazing. Strongly recommend.![]()

We did a full kitchen remodel in April 2026. Dan was our project manager and he did a great job organizing all the subcontractors and communicating the timeline with us. We started with a design meeting and we were able to see what the final design would look like. They took measurements and generated the design on the spot. The renderings matched the final product very, very closely. Throughout the process Dan would check in every day to ensure progress was happening at an acceptable pace. They even worked on one weekend to make sure we could meet our original cabinet delivery date (the city ran later than expected with when they could do their inspection, which put us behind). They worked around all our time constraints as well and were super flexible. From an original timeline of 8 weeks, we were actually able to finish in 5 weeks, even with a full rewire of added scope. This was only possible (I think) because Dan lined up all the subcontractors so well with no wasted days. There was someone working everyday, pretty much all day. I appreciated having input through the whole process, especially in picking all the finishes and appliances. We picked out our own finishes and Dan helped us to find savings where possible, which helped to keep the whole project (including add-ons) under the original estimates (without the additional scope like the rewire) we got from other companies. Overall, everyone was very timely, very open in their communication, and ensured everything came out to our satisfaction (even if it meant some additional work on their part).

Tali was our project manager on our front yard remodel and it came out amazing. She got us a quote in under 48 hours and was super quick and responsive during the whole project. When miscommunication happened, she was quick to offer solutions. We love how our yard came out and the working team led by Mel did an amazing job. They did this while thing in 2 weeks. Crazy. Definitely give these guys a chance to quote your next project. You won't regret it![]()

This is the third time we have used HQ Remodeling for a home improvement project. For our current project, they turned my adult kids' room into an at-home office space, re-roofed our house, installed a new electrical panel and car charger, and liaised with a solar company to install solar panels. All work was done quickly and professionally, with Tali, our project manager, constantly in communication to help us solve any issues immediately. We are absolutely loving all of the home improvements they've done for us over the last few years, and we would absolutely use them again.

After interviewing four other companies, I went with HQ Remodeling for my kitchen remodel and I'm so glad I did. What set them apart right from the start was their approach. knowledgeable, confident, and genuinely invested. They even took me to see similar projects they were working on in my area, which honestly sold me. They were the most expensive of the five, but their estimate was clear, detailed, and transparent. The project took about two months. The crew kept things clean and organized the whole time, which I really appreciated. But the thing that stood out the most was the communication. Whenever something came up, it got handled quickly and without drama. Big shoutout to Camilla in customer service, Eric the foreman who kept everything running smoothly on site, and Rapha the project manager who tied it all together. The end result is awesome and my kitchen looks better than I imagined. If you're on the fence about these guys, don't be. Highly recommend!![]()

I was so tired of our old kitchen so I decided to look for the best local designer to make me a new kitchen. I found HQ, they had great reviews and local reputation and the best part is that they do a professional design and also they are a general contractor. I met with Eli and Roy and their designer Emili. After finalizing the amazing design, hq gave me a detailed proposal for the actual work and they deducted the cost of the design. I compared them with 2 other contractors. The prices were all more or less the same but I really trusted hq and I am happy to say that I did the right choice. I love my new kitchen, thanks HQ, Eli and Roy!

We had been planning this backyard remodel for almost 10 years, saving up and waiting for the right time to finally do it at our home in Costa Mesa. This project was very important to us, so choosing the right company was not something we took lightly. After meeting with a few contractors, HQ Remodeling & Design stood out right away. They came in with the best vision for the space and really understood what we were trying to achieve. Their quote was fair and detailed, and we felt confident moving forward with them. Roy managed the project, with Danilo as the supervisor and Fernando as the foreman on site. The team worked well together, and you could see there was good coordination between everyone involved. Communication was solid, and they kept us updated throughout the process. The project did take longer than originally expected, mainly due to supply issues with the patio cover, which was out of everyone’s control. Even with that delay, HQ stayed on top of things and made sure the work kept progressing as much as possible. Now that everything is complete, we can honestly say it was worth the wait. The backyard looks completely different and finally feels like a space we can truly enjoy. We find ourselves spending much more time outside than before, and every friend or neighbor who sees it is impressed. Overall, HQ Remodeling & Design delivered a great result on a project that meant a lot to us. We’re very happy with how everything turned out and would definitely recommend them.![]()

We Know How Coto de Caza Works
Coto de Caza is an unincorporated community, so building permits do not go through a city office. They are processed by Orange County through OC Development Services using the County’s myOCeServices online portal. Projects are also reviewed against the Coto de Caza Specific Plan, which sets development standards specific to this community.
Before exterior work begins, plans almost always need approval from the Coto de Caza HOA architectural review committee, run through the CZ Master Association. This applies to room additions, patio covers, pool builds, exterior paint, hardscape, and front yard changes. We prepare submittals that satisfy both the County and the HOA so your project does not stall.
Much of Coto de Caza sits in a high fire hazard severity zone, which means patio covers, trellises, and certain additions require Orange County Fire Authority review, defensible space planning, and fire rated materials in some cases. We have worked throughout Los Ranchos Estates, The Village, The Woods, and Canyon Estates, as well as the homes lining the golf course and equestrian trails, so we know how to plan around large lots, hillside conditions, and HOA expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions: Remodeling in Coto de Caza, CA
Most cosmetic updates like replacing cabinets, countertops, or fixtures do not require a permit. Because Coto de Caza is unincorporated, any work involving structural changes, moving walls, relocating plumbing, or adding electrical circuits requires a permit from Orange County through OC Development Services, not a city office. Many exterior changes also need Coto de Caza HOA architectural approval through the CZ Master Association. We handle both the County permits and the HOA submittals for you.
Patio covers, pergolas, and shade structures are permitted through Orange County OC Development Services using the myOCeServices portal. Because much of Coto de Caza sits in a high fire hazard zone, patio covers and trellises also require Orange County Fire Authority review, and solid roof covers need structural engineering drawings. We prepare all documentation, manage the fire authority review, and handle inspections from start to finish.
Yes. California state ADU laws apply, which allow most single family properties to add at least one ADU and one Junior ADU. In Coto de Caza, ADUs are permitted through Orange County and must also satisfy the Coto de Caza Specific Plan and CZ Master Association architectural review. Detached ADUs require a minimum 4 foot setback from rear and side yard boundaries. We manage the full design, County permit submission, HOA approval, and construction.
Backyard remodeling in Coto de Caza typically ranges from $20,000 for a basic paver patio and patio cover, up to $150,000 or more for a full outdoor living transformation with a pool, outdoor kitchen, BBQ island, fire pit, and landscape design. Larger estate lots often fall at the higher end. We provide a detailed itemized estimate after a free on site consultation and 3D design session.
The most popular outdoor projects we complete in Coto de Caza include paver driveways and patios, solid roof and aluminum patio covers, outdoor kitchen and BBQ island builds, artificial turf, fire pit and seating areas, and custom pool and spa installations. With large lots, golf course views, and a warm South County climate, resort style backyards are one of the highest return investments a Coto de Caza homeowner can make.
A typical kitchen remodel in Coto de Caza takes 6 to 10 weeks from permit approval to completion, depending on the scope of work. Estate sized kitchens with custom cabinetry, structural changes, or imported material lead times may take longer. We provide a detailed timeline before work begins and keep you updated throughout.
